Mounds Park Academy Finished Second in Wind Shortened Conference Final

Josh S, Clara B Jack I and Genna V sailed to a second place finish in the conference final at LMSS on 10/26.  Only 3 races were held as winds topped 18 mph and the number of capsized boats exceeded the number of rescue boats.  As usual in winds like that the sailors the know how to avoid capsizing can do well, and our WBSS trained Mounds Park Academy team (with crew from Mahtomedi) did just that.   Both skippers finished 2nd in their division.

WBSS hosts the annual Art Johnson Regatta

The Art Johnson, a MISSA regatta was hosted as usual by WBSS.  This year saw team from around the twin cities, plus teams from Loyola and Evenston in IL and from Oconomowoc  in WI.  The winds were shifty and the weather was cold.  Yet the fleet, under the direction of Ed Cox got off 24 races in 12 days.  This year Oconomowoc walked away with the Art Johnson trophy, winning first by a solid margin.  Runner up was Loyola, followed by a 3rd and 4th place finish by WBSS teams […]

High School Teams from White Bear and Mounds Park Academy Take Top Spots in Fall Colors

Fall Colors, a MISSA event for high school sailors was hosted by the Wayzata Community Sailing Center on October 12th and 13th.  This year’s Fall Colors saw gigantic winds and nearly no wind.  In the end only 1 1/2 rotations were completed for the entire weekend.  Still, teams training at WBSS did exceptionally well and finished with 2 of the top 3 places in the Open fleet.   The first day of racing was solid with super strong winds that saw the fleet pulled off the lake after many capsizes. Mahtomedi/MPA Place 2nd, Mahtomedi/SPA place 6th
